Interest-Based Learning
Students engage in contextualized, student-interest-based curriculum. The engagement in these activities will be analyzed on-the-fly by the dedicated instructor to assist the learner with identifying similarities that exist between their student-interest activity and their in-school curriculum through a cognitive apprenticeship (Like carpentry, plumbing, or electricians, but for learning in general).
With an individualized, interested-based learning approach, there are many opportunities for the learner and the educator to learn from one another which may increase the student’s trust in the educator and agency over their education. A dedicated supplemental instructor can also provide opportunities for students to engage with community members involved in their interest to continue the to bolster their proclivity toward that endeavor.
Students, parents, and school-based educators provide structured monthly feedback to us to ensure that the process is working for everyone involved, especially the student. This feedback is acted upon immediately so there is no lag time between a need being discussed and that need being met.
Value-Focused Counseling
Counseling prioritizes the core values of students to facilitate their therapeutic progress. These values, fundamental to their identities, guide behaviors that align with their true selves. When students face challenges that cause disconnection from school, home, and extracurricular activities, they often act contrary to their values. Counseling aims to help students reconnect with these values, or discover them for the first time, fostering self-awareness and integrating learning as an essential aspect of their identity.
Collaboration-Driven Services
The PsychED educator and therapist have established a valuable practice of meeting biweekly to conduct thorough discussions regarding each student within their caseload. These productive sessions serve as a platform for sharing insights, analyzing strategies, and fine-tuning interventions to provide holistic support that addresses not only academic needs but also mental health and behavioral concerns. Through these regular collaborative sessions, they ensure their efforts are coordinated, maximizing the impact of their interventions and fostering a supportive environment conducive to each student's growth and well-being.
